Job Description

Alexander Daniels are currently recruiting for a diligent and proactive Assistant Accountant on behalf of our long-standing client based in Lichfield on a full-time, permanent basis. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day management of financial accounts and supporting the business reporting function. This role involves a mix of financial and management accounting duties, including balance sheet and profit & loss (P&L) management, assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and responding to financial queries. The Assistant Accountant will work closely with the Business Reporting Accountant to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and reports.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Accounts

  • Manage day-to-day accounting functions including maintaining the balance sheet and P&L statements.
  • Process and record financial transactions accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile bank statements and ensure discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Support the audit process by providing necessary documentation and explanations.

Management Accounts

  • Assist the Business Reporting Accountant with the preparation and analysis of management reports.
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring accuracy and alignment with company goals.
  • Analyse variances between actual and budgeted figures, providing insightful commentary.
  • Prepare and present financial data to support business decision-making.
  • Respond to financial queries from internal stakeholders, providing clear and concise information.

General Duties

  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
  • Continuously seek process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance function.
  • Maintain accurate and organised financial records.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure financial processes are understood and followed.
  • Participate in special projects and ad-hoc financial analysis as required.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance and/or studying towards a recognised accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA).
  • Proven experience in a similar accounting role, with a strong understanding of both financial and management accounting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
