Financial Accountant

Alexander Daniels are currently recruiting for a Financial Accountant on behalf of a large distribution business based in Walsall on a full-time, permanent basis. Reporting into the Financial Controller and working as part of a small and friendly team, you will take ownership for the VAT and statutory accounts preparation for the business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure accurate and timely preparation of VAT returns.
• Monitor and implement changes in VAT legislation to ensure compliance.
• Provide advice on VAT-related matters to internal stakeholders.
• Conduct regular bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Oversee the preparation and posting of accruals and prepayments.
• Work closely with budget holders to ensure accurate forecasting.
• Monitor and analyse actual vs. budgeted expenses.
• Support with the preparation of statutory financial statements.
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with auditors during the audit process.

The ideal candidate will hold either an AAT qualification or a degree in Accounting & Finance (or related field) with a view to studying towards a professional qualification such as ACCA, ACA, or equivalent (candidates who are not qualified but hold the relevant experience are also encourgaed to apply). You must have proven experience in a similar role, preferably within the distribution, warehousing or logistics industries, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
