Job Description

Alexander Daniels are seeking an Accounts Assistant on behalf of a large engineering business in Wolverhampton on a full time, permanent basis. Reporting into the Finance Manager, you will provide crucial support in compiling and maintaining the financial records of the company. This role encompasses a variety of accounting tasks, including purchase ledger, cashbook, expenses, nominal ledger/month-end routines, and serving as backup for other members of the finance team.

Key Activities:

  • Ownership and maintenance of the purchase ledger including processing and checking purchase ledger invoices daily
  • Resolving delays in approvals by liaising with various departments
  • Ensuring timely authorisation of invoices according to the delegated list of authorities
  • Handling supplier queries via email and phone
  • Generating purchase ledger payment runs
  • Updating purchase ledger register log and providing assistance to relevant departments for invoice clearance
  • Reconciling supplier statements
  • Daily updating of cash book transactions from bank statements
  • Nominal ledger/month-end routines and close off
  • Covering GRNI report and goods inspection reports
  • Checking and posting expenses claims on a weekly basis, ensuring proper authorisation and prompt resolution of queries
  • Preparing monthly overhead transactional analysis
  • Filing finance documentation
  • Assisting with orders and invoice requirements for customer submissions
  • Meeting all monthly cut-offs for month-end processes
  • Willingness to take on additional tasks as needed.

Essential Role Requirements:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer accounting software systems
  • Experience in processing and maintaining entries in accounts payable and general ledgers
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent numeracy and attention to detail
  • Well-organised with the ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Motivated to complete tasks efficiently
  • Proficient IT literacy, especially in MS Excel

The business offers an excellent working environment and benefits. The hours of work are 9-5pm Monday to Thursday then 9-4:30pm on Friday (37 hours per week). This role is office based in Wolverhampton, hybrid working will be available after probation/training is complete.
