Financial Director – Oswestry £90,000 to £120,000 plus performance bonus of up to 30% Holidays: 25 days plus bank holidays
Alexander Daniels have been exclusively retained to recruit an experienced Finance Director to join one of the fastest growing businesses in the UK.
Role Description
The Finance Director will be working closely with the MD in controlling the organisation’s finances through budgeting, forecasting, reporting, and managing cash flow. The FD will work closely with the leadership team to provide clear financial insight and guide strategic decisions. Ensuring strong financial controls are in place, managing risk effectively, and leading the finance team to support the organisation’s long-term goals.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
* Assist and support the MD in financial decisions impacting the business
* Writing and executing business plans
* Sit on the board of Directors making strategic decisions in the room across departments
* Ensure adequate funding is in place to support capital expenditure and business growth
* Maintain a robust short term and long term cashflow forecast
* Manage the capex program with the operations director
* Prepare monthly management information (MI) and business insight reports for Board meetings
* Drive cost saving initiatives across the business and help improve gross margin
* Prepare and update budgets/forecasts for internal and external stakeholders
* Monitor profitability, ensure accounting records are accurate, and maintain compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
* Undertake tax planning in liaison with accountants
* Report to banks and other external stakeholders on company performance, including explanations for cost and sales variances
* Provide long-term cash flow forecasts to banks and external stakeholders when required
* Reserve foreign exchange requirements at optimal rates
* Liaise with external parties, including accountants, bank managers, insurers, and HMRC
* Prepare for interim and annual audits: for stock funding, invoice finance, and year-end accounts
* Submit monthly VAT returns and liaise with HMRC on queries
* Oversee monthly Stock Base Borrowing Certificate submission to the bank
* Oversee monthly Invoice Finance Reconciliation submission to the bank
* Ensure the company fulfils all statutory requirements for HMRC and Companies House
* Oversee weekly supplier payments, ensuring controls are in place (e.g. purchase orders, delivery notes), and monitor price variations and errors
* Manage the finance team
* Monitor debt collection activity to ensure adequate cash inflow and maintain appropriate reserve levels
* Approve capital and non-stock purchases
* Facilitate grant applications
* Oversee the fixed asset register
* Oversee prepayments and accruals schedules, ensuring control over timing differences
* Monitor stock valuation, including the impact of valuation and timing on gross margins
* Review general ledger account allocations
* Payroll: Liaise with HR and external payroll provider for monthly payroll submissions, submit payroll payments to the bank, and ensure timely payment of PAYE and attachment of earnings
* Approve and check journal entries/corrections for stock valuation, wages, prepayments, accruals, and depreciation
* Run month-end and year-end procedures
* Maintain the company’s stakeholder pension scheme
About you:
* Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA)
* Experience operating at Finance Director level ideally within a SME / Privately owned business
* Proven background in manufacturing or a product-driven industry
* Strategic thinker with strong leadership and problem-solving skills
* Skilled communicator able to explain complex financials clearly
* Experienced with ERP systems and advanced Excel
