Financial Controller

Alexander Daniels are working with a well-established, privately owned manufacturing business based in Burton-on-Trent who are seeking a Financial Controller to lead its finance function and support the Managing Director in driving operational and strategic performance.

This is a hands-on role suited to a qualified accountant who thrives in a fast-paced SME environment and enjoys being at the heart of decision-making. The business is part of a larger European group and offers exposure to international reporting and board-level engagement.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day financial operations including banking, reporting, and compliance.
• Liaise with external accountants and supervise internal admin staff.
• Prepare and present financial reports to the parent group, including annual meetings abroad.
• Deputise for the MD when required, supporting across sales, operations, and finance.
• Maintain and improve financial controls and reporting systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contribute to commercial decisions.

About You

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA).
• Strong experience in SME finance, ideally within manufacturing or similar sectors.
• Confident communicator with the ability to challenge and improve processes.
• Comfortable leading from the front and stepping into a broader operational role when needed.
• Approachable, team-oriented, and culturally adaptable – able to engage with a diverse, energetic office team.
